Not quite ready for the knacker's yard

It's sad to see an old car, which started out as the fun little runabout of some metrosexual end its days as a beast of burden. Or maybe it was never like that. When I first came to Slovakia I remember arguing to dissuade someone from buying a huge gas guzzler and they argued that while British people might like an economical car, people in Slovakia only bought small cars because they were cheap, and if you wanted to prove that you were not poor in Slovakia you had damn well better get yourself a jeep, even if you just want to pop to the shops and back.

All very sad. My first car at age 17 and 9 months ( called Betsey ) was an maroon red 1964, HJ 9428, Austin A/40, the orginal hatchback, where the rear seats flapped forward, to give you a huge boot area , that was great for all my sea fishing gear ;-))

Total rust bucket it became ofcourse in a few years and the drivers floor pan later had a huge hole, where the tide came in and out depending on the road conditions, but I travelled miles in that can ..I had my first shag in there as well ;-))

Happy days .

1967, met bronze 1600 GT Cortina was mine, go fast sports wheels and big loud exhust . The bloody insurance ( third party F-T ) cost me more than the car which was 325 pounds .

I got stolen in Hackney in East London , whilst I was working one day . Got the shell back from Dalston police station . Broke my heart . Bought a Morris Marina next ( yes by then I was married with kiddie ) , by far the WORST car I ever owned .

Heavens I had one of those an MG one ! My first jam jar was a 1963 VW Beetle , it even had bolt on and off hallmark protruding wings, which was just as well as I replaced every one of them at least once, with the bumps I had after the pub. So the VW light grey official colouring, become almost a union jack, with red, white and blue from the breakers yard, second hand wings I was forced to replace.

When I got into Rock & Roll ( Merchandising and Fan club President of a famous rock band of the 70’s ) I bought a 12 year old Roller, metallic light gold. 5 ltr , 8 miles to the gallon !!! My father said I should save my money or by a house, with what it cost me to buy and run . Far to sensible at age 23, mind you with hindsight he was perhaps correct ;-(((

Just had a peak back at Coma , Hurka , is panicking ..I didn’t do it she claims … oh yes you did ;-)
